Initial Consultation

The process begins with a conversation. We discuss your requirements, the space where the furniture will be located, and your preferences regarding materials and finishes. This initial meeting can take place at your location, in our workshop, or via video call.

We ask questions about how you use the space, what storage or functional requirements you have, and what aesthetic direction appeals to you. We also discuss budget parameters and timeline expectations. This information forms the foundation for the design development phase.

There is no obligation at this stage. The consultation is an opportunity for both parties to determine if the project is a good fit. If we proceed, we move to the design development phase.

Design Development

Based on the information gathered during the consultation, we create preliminary design drawings. These drawings show the overall form, dimensions, and key details of the proposed piece. We present these drawings for your review and feedback.

The design is refined through an iterative process. Adjustments are made based on your feedback until the design meets your requirements. Once the design is approved, we create detailed construction drawings that specify every dimension, joint, and detail.

Material samples are provided during this phase so you can see and feel the timbers under consideration. Finish samples are also available to help determine the final appearance of the piece.

Material Sourcing and Preparation

Once the design is finalized and materials are selected, we source the timber. We work with reputable suppliers who provide sustainably sourced materials. The timber is inspected for quality and suitability before purchase.

The selected timber is then milled to rough dimensions and allowed to acclimate in our workshop. This acclimation period ensures the wood has reached equilibrium with the workshop environment, reducing the risk of movement after construction.

During this phase, any required hardware is ordered and construction drawings are finalized. We maintain communication throughout, providing updates on progress and any issues that arise.

Workshop Construction

Construction begins with dimensioning the timber to final sizes. Joints are laid out and cut using a combination of hand tools and machinery. Each component is carefully fitted, with adjustments made by hand to ensure precise joinery.

The piece is assembled in stages, with dry fits performed to check fit and proportion before final assembly. Once assembled, the piece is sanded through progressively finer grits to achieve a smooth surface ready for finishing.

We provide regular updates during construction, including photographs of work in progress. This allows you to see the piece taking shape and provides opportunities for any necessary adjustments.

Finishing

The chosen finish is applied carefully, with multiple coats sanded between applications. The number of coats and the final sheen level depend on the finish type and your preferences. Natural oils may require periodic reapplication, while lacquers provide longer-term protection.

After the finish has cured, hardware is installed and final adjustments are made. The piece is inspected for quality and any minor issues are addressed before delivery.

Delivery and Installation

Once construction is complete, we arrange delivery and installation. For larger pieces, we handle delivery and installation to ensure the furniture is positioned correctly and any final adjustments are made on-site.

After installation, we provide care instructions for maintaining the finish and ensuring the piece remains in good condition. We are available for questions or concerns that may arise after delivery.
